Love content

Once upon a time in a land far far away, I had a conversation with a good friend of mine when we tried to define what love meant for us. This is my two cents about what it means strictly in an objective sense without too much baggage.

The dictionary defines love as :-

  1. an intense feeling of deep affection.
  2. a great interest and pleasure in something.

Without putting too much thought into it, straight off the bat, influenced by the dictionary meaning, I would say that love for me is selfless, commitment, omnipresent, relationship with God, parents, wife, kid, animal, possessions, weather, destination, money, friends, neighbour.

To give you a different perspective in the purest form possible influenced by the movie character Kabir Singh with the movie of the same name, love could also mean the following. Love is intense, getting crazy, completely under a spell, passion, it is a fix like no other, a high beyond the most psychedelic drug, whole-heartedly, not 20%, not 33%, not 40%, love is not just a physical aspiration but a whole dynamic which keeps evolving. It is not a crush or an infatuation but when the self is annulled into being, suffering.

Love is also a feeling governed by solemn oaths in different faiths transcending generations, the culmination of a long or small courtship with rituals along the way acknowledging the holiest of scriptures as witnesses. Even afterlife is a by-product of what it entails for an individual and his love for the partner during the lifetime, the sacrifices for each other.

I follow a fairly even approach where I’d much rather experience it on a day-to-day basis than realize it whether during or at the end of the day. To desist from a transactional back and forth, I veer towards no expectations, and hence, there would be no disappointments. Utopian feelings are best kept for fiction novels and I would rather be practical at the end of the day. Common goals and reciprocity do the trick for me.

What does love mean for you? Did I miss out on a facet that you’d like to share? How would you define your love? Please share your comments and thanks for stopping by.
